As I (mz) was surfing the net, an idea came to me. I hurried to Google and typed in "What does Melissa mean?," itching to find out. This was what I discovered:
Melissa is a given name for a female. It has a Greek origin, meaning 'honey bee'.
Melissa - a nymph and daughter of King Melisseus; she nursed the infant Zeus with goat milk on Mt. Ida; she taught humans how to use honey and her name comes from the Greek word for bee, melitta.
My chinese on the other hand revealed this.
Zhen = precious and rare.
If I remember correctly,
May = beautiful.
So...mz = beautiful precious and rare?? Aiyo... if only.
As I was talking to Rowena at that time, I thought it would be interesting to look up the meaning of her name as well. I found this:
The name Rowena, pronounced "Roe-Eena" is an Old English name meaning "red haired". It was often thought that Rowena was the name given to a rugged woman.
Origin: Scottish. Of uncertain origin and meaning, Rowena is thought to be derived from the obsolete Old English Hrothwina, HroSwyn, a compound name composed of the elements hroth, hros (fame) and wine (friend) or wynn (bliss, joy). Alternatively, it might be a derivative of the Cymric Rhonwen, which is composed from the elements rhon (spear, lance) and given, gwyn (white, fair, blessed)
I was pretty surprised at my findings. My name means 'honey bee' and Rowena's name means 'red haired', huh? I don't think I'm in anyway similiar to a bee and the last time I saw Rowena which was about 6 hours ago, her hair was still black.
Princess Rowena speaketh: says:
so...nymph or rugged woman??
Usually, I would have ideas pouring out when I find something interesting. But when it came to nymphs and rugged women, I really didn't know what to say in reply to her message. Perhaps it's because I never thought that such common names like ours would have such unexpected meanings. Hmm...
Row, here's where you edit the post =)
